On Wednesday 13 June 2012, the Economic Section of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in London organised a seminar and reception in collaboration with the British Embassy in The Hague. The side event to Global Offshore Wind 2012 exhibition at London ExCel discussed how the skills, knowledge and resources of both countries can contribute to a more viable and cost-effective development of wind parks in the North Sea. This event was organised as a follow-up to the very successful conference the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands organised in Cambridge in January 2011 on Wind energy.
Exhibition attendees from both countries listened to presentations by David Charlesworth from the Crown Estate on the latest development in Round 3 in the UK. Followed by Reinout Wissenburg from the Netherlands Wind Energy Association and SSE Renewables) informing the audience on the current state of play in the Dutch market and how innovation can support the supply chain towards cost reduction. He specifically showed some successes of the new Green Deal between by the Dutch government and the offshore wind industry.
Bert van Dijk from Heerema Fabrication Group, presented the latest trends in the construction of Offshore Wind facilities from a constructor’s point of view. His main points consisted of the great lessons still to be learned from contractors and utility companies together in each project ensuring effective communications and expectations in the development process. The seminar ended with a small debate on cost reductions in the industry, was led by Frank Beiboer from Intertek METOC. After the event some active networking took place during the drinks reception in the same room.
