Five Dutch photographers among World Press Photo winners

Dutch photographers Rob Hornstra, Ton Koene, Ilvy Njiokiktjien, Pavel Prokopchik and Paolo Woods were among the winners of the Photo Contest. It was the 55th annual World Press Photo Contest and the winners were announced in a press conference on the 10th February.

From January 28 through the 9th of February 2012, an international jury of professionals in the field of photography gathered in Amsterdam for the judging of the Photo Contest. They selected a picture by Samuel Aranda from Spain as the World Press Photo of the Year 2011 and they also selected winners in the categories of Spot News, General News, People in the News, Contemporary Issues, Daily Life, Portraits, Arts & Entertainment, Nature and Sports.

Paolo Woods received a third prize in the category of Daily Life. In the category of Contemporary Issues and Portraits, Ilvy Njiokiktjien and Ton Koene were selected as second prize winners.

In Arts and Entertainment, Rob Hornstra was selected as the first prize winner and Pavel Prokopchik received a third prize in the same category.
