Poverty Reduction

Effective poverty reduction is a complex issue, involving many different actors. It also has political, social and cultural dimensions. Essentially, it' s all about improving future prospects for the 1.2 billion people in the world who live below the poverty line of one dollar a day. Good governance is also a precondition for effective poverty reduction, sustainable development, and the fair distribution of wealth. Supporting good governance means promoting democratisation, strengthening local governance, reducing corruption, and encouraging the proper management of budgets.
